          Jesus’ Claims About Himself

1 The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”
2  “I am not possessed by a demon,” said Jesus, “but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
3 I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.
4 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”
5 At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed!Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death.
6 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”

7 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.

8  Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.

9  Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”

10  “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”

11  “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”  At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

                   Jesus Walks on the Water

1 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.
2 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.
3 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened.
4 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid. Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

5  The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone.

6  Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

7 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.

           Jesus Teaches at the Festival

1 Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”

2 Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.

3 Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

4  Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”

5  “You are demon-possessed,” the crowd answered. “Who is trying to kill you?”

6 Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed. Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath.

7 Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath?

8 Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
2 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
3 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
4 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
5 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes.
6 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

7 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?”

8  Some claimed that he was.Others said, “No, he only looks like him.”But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”

9  “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.

10  He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”

11 “Where is this man?” they asked him.“I don’t know,” he said.
