Jesus the Way to the Father

1 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
2 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
3  If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
4 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
5 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

6  Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
7  Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.
8  Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

9 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

10 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

              Jesus Predicts His Death

1 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival.
2 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.”
3  Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.
4 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
5  Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

6  Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
7  Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
8  “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.
9  Father, glorify your name!”Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
10 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
11  Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine. Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.

12 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”  He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

13  The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”

14 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.

15  Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
